MEHA Project 1 is one of the earliest sustaining projects. In April 2001, CISEPO and MEHA initiated the Early Detection of Hearing Loss in Infants program (MEHA Project 1) for Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli infants.

The Jordanian and Palestinian components of this project were supported jointly by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and CISEPO. Projects 2, 3 and 4 expand and develop the work of Project 1.
